AD- I was gifted a Kula Bag in exchange for review. All thoughts and opinions remain my own.
Over the past two years, I’ve started two new jobs. The first was at a doctor’s surgery as a receptionist, and the second was my current job working for Sheffield University.
Preparing for a new job can be daunting, and it’s always difficult to start something brand new.
In this post, I’ve come up with 3 tips to prepare for a new job- whether this is your first-ever job or a brand new start!
1. Sort out your wardrobe
If you’re starting a new job, chances are you’ll need to wear specific clothing.
This might range all the way from casual to very smart, and you need to know what your employer expects from you on that first day.
Before you start, try to ask someone what the dress code will be so that you know how to prepare for the big day.
If you don’t get chance to ask, I think smart casual is always a good tip to prepare for a new job.
Get a few outfits ready for your first week, and don’t beat yourself up if you don’t get it exactly right on your first day.
Try to create some separation between what you wear to work and what you wear at home- even if you’re working from home.
This can help you create a separate mindset for work and relaxation.
2. Get in the right mindset
If you’re anything like me, the worst part about starting a job is that feeling that you have no idea what’s going on.
You don’t know who’s who or what’s what, and you feel like a fish out of water. This can make you feel isolated and lost when you first start something new.
So to combat that feeling, try and get in the right mindset about what you’re doing. If this is a job you’re doing because you need the money, understand that it might not be a lifelong career.
If this is your first step on your chosen career path, accept that new things take time to settle.
Try to think forward a month or so, once you know people’s names and have a routine sorted.
Of course, it could be that a certain job just isn’t working for you- in which case you need to do something about it.
But if it’s just a case of first-day jitters, try to re-evaluate how you look at your work, and remember that it takes time to settle in.
3. Make sure you have all the essentials
When you are preparing for a new job, it’s important to have all the essentials. This might be new stationery, a notepad or a bag that fits everything you need.
Introducing Kula Bags…
Kula Bags are a fantastic, affordable choice if you’re looking to buy a new bag for your new job!
This small business offers a range of bags and rucksacks and all of their products have a paper-like quality that makes them different from any other bag I’ve ever seen.
Made out of completely sustainable and vegan materials, these bags are perfect for those looking to reduce their impact on the world.
I love the interesting material used to create these bags, and it is weather-proof and easy to wash.
The bags also come wrapped in paper, meaning this company is committed to helping our planet as much as possible.
Kula Bags offer a wide range of different bags to choose from, and there’s something for everyone.

They have small bags if you’re just popping out with friends, or big rucksacks if you need somewhere to store all your essentials.
They also have laptop sleeves to keep your electronics safe, and small bags that could be used to store make-up.
I was very generously gifted the Whitworth rucksack, which is a slightly smaller rucksack- but one that is perfect for keeping all the essentials.
When I go to work, I don’t need a huge bag that’s going to get in the way, but I need a bag that’s going to hold all my work basics, such as my water bottle, notepad, mask and work ID.
The Whitworth rucksack is the perfect size for that, and I love the unique feel and look of these sustainable bags.

It also means I can easily go from work to meeting friends, as it looks good and it isn’t too bulky like other rucksacks.
If you’d like to find out more about these sustainable bags, please check out the Kula Bags website!
