How to Use Visuals in Your Blog Content – My Top Tips

AD – This is a collaborative post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’m all about the written word – and that’s how I like to express myself. However, adding photos, videos, GIFs, infographics or charts to your blog posts can make your content more engaging and easier to read.

Visuals encompass so many different types of digital media – and they’re a fantastic way to express your creativity. You might love adding your own photographs to your blog posts or you might use infographics to give your readers a bit more information.

Let’s take a closer look at blog post visuals, including how to use new visuals in your blog content and a few different graphics to try out.

Why use visuals in your blog content?

Using visuals in your blog content is a great way to make your posts engaging and readable for your loyal audience. Your readers can scan through your blog post to get the information they need – and the right graphics will add value to your content.

You can use photos to tell a story or present your facts with graphs and charts. Visuals don’t replace fantastic written content – they enhance it. They improve the reader’s experience and encourage people to spend more time on your page.

Videos are a great way to make your content a bit different. You could point your readers to a YouTube video that illustrates your point, or make your own video. This is also a chance to speak to your readers – and it can make your blog post stand out among hundreds of others.

High-quality videos, photos or graphics can help you grab attention online, tell your story and get more readers onto your site.

How to use visuals in your blog content

Using visuals in your blog posts can get your content out to more people – but you’ve got to do the right thing for you and your readers. Make sure any graphics are relevant to your audience.

For example, if you write about fashion, you might want to include images of your outfits in your blog posts. Or if you’re writing an informative post about food waste, an infographic might help you show different elements about the topic.

Your visuals need to be simple! You should be making your post easier to read, not harder. Only use a graphic when you think it enhances the reader’s experience – and don’t just stuff photos or videos into your post if it doesn’t need it.

3 types of visual digital content

You can use a range of different digital media in your blog posts, depending on what works for you. Let’s take a look at 3 types of visual content.

1. Infographic

What is an infographic poster? Well, an infographic is a visual representation of information or data, combining text, images and graphics to present your information.

If you want to put across a complicated idea or showcase intricate pieces of data, an infographic can help your reader easily take in your information.

These engaging visuals show that you know what you’re talking about – and you can help your reader visualise your data. An infographic doesn’t replace a detailed explanation, but it makes it easier for a reader to understand your points.

2. Videos

It goes without saying that videos are very popular right now – just look at TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube. With a free video editor, you can easily create engaging videos to enhance your blog content and capture your audience’s attention.

This type of visual content gives you a chance to tell your story in a different format. You can speak to your audience – rather than just writing – and directly engage with them.

Putting a video in your blog post can also make your content a bit more relatable. Your readers can see that there’s a real human behind the keyboard!

3. Pictures

Pictures and photos are a great way to capture attention, creating visual impact for your readers. You can use these visuals to share your post on social media or break up your text.

Good-quality photos can help you express your creativity and create relatable images for your readers. Whether you’re taking photos of products for a review or snapping pictures of your day out, photos will help your reader build up an image to go alongside your writing.

Blog post images are also good for SEO, helping you reach out to more readers via search engines – and they make your posts scannable and easy to read.

  1. This is really useful, I like to use visuals within my blog posts just to break up the text and make it more aesthetic. I like how this has made me think about how I use the visuals.
