The New Year is coming up, and with it you might be considering how you can edit, improve and change your blog- or you might be starting a brand new online space for the New Year.
I’ve been blogging for 5+ years now, and there are a few important tasks that can help you create regular content that you love, finding new ways to grow your blog in 2023.
As we come to the end of the year, I wanted to put together a big list of 23 blogging tasks to grow your blog in 2023. This is a way to keep myself accountable, too!
From small edits to on-going tasks, these blogging tasks are sure to keep you busy in 2023.
In this blog post, I’ve put together 23 blogging tasks to complete in 2023!
1. Write down your goals for the year
First things first, write down your goals for the year.
This gives you chance to think about your priorities, such as content creation, growing your readership, engaging on social media or connecting with new bloggers.
2. Mindmap new blog post ideas
Mindmapping new blog post ideas is a great way to come up with a constant stream of content.
Sometimes you might have lots of ideas, and sometimes you can’t think of anything at all…

Spend a bit of time mindmapping new blog post ideas in 2023.
3. Add alt text to all your images
Alt text is an important aspect of your blog post for SEO and accessibility.
It allows all viewers to access your images, and it also helps search engine crawlers list your site.
4. Reply to your emails
Start off your 2023 by replying to all those annoying emails that need a response. You could also delete any emails that you don’t need anymore.
Block spam emails, reply to any brand or guest post requests or just delete your unfinished drafts to start the year off on the right foot.
5. Add internal links
Go through your blog posts and add a few internal links!
These links are great for your site accessibility, allowing users to move around your blog without any trouble.
6. Check for broken links
It might not be the most exciting blogging task, but checking for broken links is important to clean up your site and keep it nice and healthy.

You could put a date in the diary to do this on a regular basis, such as every month.
7. Schedule your social media posts
If you use social media to promote your posts, scheduling your content is a key task to grow your blog and reach new readers in 2023.
I like to try and do this every month whenever I get chance, and then I can tweet in real time whenever I fancy it.
8. Add external links
In 2023, add external links to your blog posts. You could go through and edit old posts or just start adding external posts to your new blog posts.
All of these links will help to build your DA or improve your SEO, showing everyone that your blog is a trustworthy source while you grow your site.
9. Sign up to a blogger outreach programme
Working with brands and other bloggers is a great way to grow your blog in 2023.
You could check out Get Blogged or Intellifluence for regular blogging opportunities, all in one place.
10. Explore social media
If you’re starting your blog this year, or you just want to grow your blog a bit in 2023, explore social media!

Although you don’t need social media to grow and promote your blog, it can be a great place to connect with others.
Take some time to explore the various channels and find your favourite place in 2023.
11. Update SEO in old posts
If you want to grow and improve your blog in 2023, SEO is a great place to start.
You could set aside a little time each week to edit old posts or spend a bit of time learning more about SEO.
12. Connect with new bloggers
If you want to grow your blog in 2023, you need to connect with other bloggers.
There’s no point producing fantastic content for your readers if you don’t know these readers, or if you don’t have any connections with fellow bloggers.

As well as regular views, connections with new bloggers can also bring guest post and linking opportunities for your site.
13. Find new images
If you’re improving your blog in 2023, finding new images can help to grow your site.
You might want to update copyright-free images with photography or your own, or you might find more relevant images to add to your posts.
14. Check your stats
It’s important to check your stats if you want to grow your blog in 2023.
You can use your most-viewed posts to inform your future blog post content or just simply get an idea of who is looking at your posts.
15. Contact your favourite brands
Contact your favourite brands to grow your blog and create new opportunities for yourself in 2023.
Whether you love skincare or chocolate, try contacting your favourite brands.

I love working with small businesses or companies, and there are lots of ways to do this while staying true to your blog and yourself.
16. Comment on new blogs
Connecting with new bloggers is important- but it’s even more important to engage with these writers.
Make a list of new blogs to check out in 2023, and leave comments on these sites throughout the year.
This will encourage other people to come over to your blog and read your content.
17. Edit old writing
Edit any old posts and improve your writing! I’ve been working my way through old posts to edit them.
It’s both great and super embarrassing to see how my writing has improved since I first started my blog.
18. Do keyword research
Although I am not an SEO expert by any means, keyword research is a great way to grow your blog in 2023.

Keyword research can make sure your blog posts always reach out to people, getting ranked as high as possible by search engines.
19. Check out Twitter comment threads
If you want to reach out to more readers in 2023, Twitter comment threads are a great choice.
The comment threads allow you to comment on other posts and receive comments on your posts in response.
These threads really help me get comments on my blog posts, too.
20. Brush up on your skills
If you’re looking for a new way to enjoy your blog in the New Year, try taking a course!
This is helpful to grow your blog, improve your skills and have a bit of fun.
21. Write!
There are a million and one tasks to complete on your blog- but writing is the most important one!
After all, it’s probably the main reason you started your blog in the first place.

Writing quality, engaging content is the best way to build a loyal audience on your blog.
22. Reply to all your comments
I love hearing what people think of my content- but sometimes I miss a comment or I read it but don’t have time to reply at that time.
Go through all your old comments and reply to them!
It gives you chance to connect with new bloggers or just find out if your posts resonate with your readers.
23. Relax!
At the end of the day, blogging should be fun!
Don’t forget to take some time to rest, relax and enjoy your writing in the New Year.

This is an excellent list. I am working my way through my older posts. Some I am deleting. Others I am refreshing and republishing. I’ve definitely grown a lot since my early days of blogging in 2019.

Couldn’t agree more on the Twitter comment threads – they are great – The most fun part is the writing, but a blog needs so much more than just that
