5 Tips to Build a Healthy Work/Life Balance

A healthy work/life balance means different things to different people – and how you build your work/life balance can depend on your job, your family or your individual needs.

For many people, a work/life balance is about taking regular holidays – including weekends and trips abroad. For others, it might mean choosing a flexible remote schedule that works for you.

Whatever you like to do, it’s so important to maintain a healthy work/life balance!

Your job can be rewarding, meaningful, even fun. But at the end of the day, it’s just a job – and you need to find things to enjoy outside of work, too.

In this blog post, I’ve put together 5 tips to build a healthy work/life balance – including lots of ideas for remote workers

There are lots of ways to build a healthy work/life balance, including:

  3. Add balance to your day-to-day routine
  4. Book time off
  5. Focus on what you need

Let’s take a look at these tips in a little more detail…

1. Decide what work/life balance means to you

First of all, it’s important to decide what work/life balance means to you – and this might change throughout your life.

You might want to take long holidays and travel abroad whenever you can, or you might want to enjoy a good amount of flexibility to look after your kids every day.

By understanding what you need, you can build a successful work/life balance for yourself – and you’re more likely to enjoy a happy and healthy life.

2. Look after yourself

If you want to promote a healthy work/life balance, it’s important to look after yourself.

This means showing yourself a little love, as well as filling your body with healthy meals and getting plenty of exercise.

By looking after yourself, you can keep a close eye on your mental and physical health – making sure you always stay on top of burn-out and put time into building a healthy lifestyle.

3. Add balance to your day-to-day life

If you want to build a healthy work/life balance, try to find small ways to add balance to your day-to-day life.

It’s great to take long holidays, but finding little ways to add balance to your daily routine can help you maintain a healthy work/life balance throughout the year. You could make sure to take a proper lunch break every day, switch off your emails at 5pm or make an effort to exercise before work.

Taking time to do an activity that makes you feel passionate is also a great way to add joy and balance to your routine.

4. Book time off

Although there are a few great ways to add balance to your day-to-day life – it’s important to book proper time off, too.

Whether you’re a remote translator or a freelance writer like me, you need to enjoy a good amount of time off throughout the year.

If you work in a traditional job, you’ll be allocated a certain number of days each year – so make sure you use them up! If you’re a freelancer, make sure to allow yourself proper time off, too.

You don’t have to go on holiday, but just some time away from your work can do a world of good.

Whatever your job, regular breaks will make you a happier, healthier and more productive worker – and they can help you build a healthy work/life balance, too.

5. Focus on what you need!

If you want to build a healthy work/life balance, it’s important to focus on exactly what you need.

Do you want to socialise with other people at the end of the work day? Or do you want to spend time alone to rest?

Learn to listen to your body and show yourself a little self-compassion – and always say “no” to any plans you want to avoid. By focusing on what you need, you can add a healthy balance to your freelance routine.

  2. I am working so hard on trying to have a life and work balance. I have been using a different planner with hours layout, so I am working on balancing different tasks. I definitely need to have the balance worked out before I start university in September. Thank you for sharing these tips, these will come in handy!

  3. Some great tips here! I think if you work for yourself it can be extra difficult to take time off for yourself, as well as switch off from work. So your advice to decide what is the ideal work/life balance for you is essential.
