With the new season upon us, shorter days and bad weather can put many of us in a bit of a funk. I love Autumn, but I think it’s easy to feel low when the clocks go back – and it’s daunting to think that we’re entering the last chunk of the year. Where did 2024 go?
If you’re feeling a bit flat, don’t worry! There are lots of fun ways to inject fun and passion into the new season. Try out something new, take time off or just get out of your regular routine to feel refreshed for Autumn.
5 activities to help you feel inspired for a new season
There are lots of fun, affordable ways to get inspired and motivated for the new season, including:
- Refresh your space
- Plan a cosy Autumn activity
- Mix up your routine
- Go for an Autumn walk
- Start a new project
Let’s take a closer look…
1. Refresh your space
Take some time to refresh your space for the new season. This might mean clearing out your wardrobe or putting up a few Autumn decorations.
If you’re a freelancer or remote worker, you never want your workspace to get stale, so boost your productivity by giving your space a good refresh.
You could move your desk to a different room to make the most of any natural light during the day, or you could declutter your office.
Sometimes, it just takes a few small changes to put you in the right headspace. Create a productive, cosy space for yourself – and get inspired for the new season.
2. Plan a cosy Autumn activity
Romanticising your Autumn with cosy activities is a great way to feel inspired. You could visit a pumpkin patch or go to a local museum for a bit of inspiration.

It’s easy to isolate yourself at this time of year, especially as the weather gets worse. You might not feel like going out, so give yourself some cosy Autumn activities to look forward to.
Plan an Autumn reading afternoon or put on your favourite film to seek inspiration from the comfort of your own home.
3. Mix up your routine
I love mixing up my routine when I’m feeling flat. I’ll do something different, like going for a walk in a new place or working from a café.
Whether you’re a freelance translator or you work for a traditional company, there are plenty of opportunities to mix up your daily routine. You could:
- Attend an inspirational talk or event
- Head out into nature
- Meet up with a new friend
- Treat yourself to a coffee on the way to work
- Make a new meal for tea
Doing things just a little bit differently will give you a fresh perspective on your work, life and relationships for the new season.
4. Go for a crisp Autumn walk
Okay, so maybe you can’t guarantee crisp, sunny Autumn weather – but a walk is sure to make you feel inspired.
If you’re feeling down about the darker days ahead, make sure to celebrate all the good things about the new season. Go for a Bonfire Night walk or spend time in the beautiful Autumn trees.

I’m lucky to live near lots of green spaces. When I need inspiration, I pick a spot and go for a short walk. It gets the blood pumping – and there’s nothing like the colours of Autumn to help you feel inspired.
If it’s sunny enough, you could even sit and meditate or read to soak up everything nature has to offer.
5. Start a new project
Starting a new project can help you feel motivated and inspired for Autumn. If you’re stuck in a rut at work, how can you find a new perspective on your job? Could you start a passion project in your spare time?
Your project doesn’t have to be related to work! It could be as simple as starting a jigsaw or trying out a new fitness class. It’s all about finding ways to feel passionate and inspired.

These are excellent suggestions. I have a birthday in Autumn, but as I get older I tend to look forward to it less and less. Changing workstations really helps. I’ll do that again I think.
