8 Films to Watch on Valentine’s Day

Today I thought I would write a post to celebrate Valentine’s Day this weekend ❀ ❀

Unfortunately I won’t be able to spend Valentine’s Day with my boyfriend this year, so I was in two minds about celebrating it on my blog- but after reading Rachel’s great post about Valentine’s Day post ideas, I thought I would add my thoughts to the mix πŸ™‚

Whether you’re single, having a romantic date night, or celebrating with your partner from afar- check out these fantastic Valentine’s Day film night choices, perfect for staying in with this year. They are all light-hearted, fun films that I think we all need during lockdown!

Below, I’ve come up with 8 films to watch on Valentine’s Day

About Time

I love this film, and it’s currently available on Netflix. I watched it recently with my sister and it is so romantic but normal. Set in England, the romance seems normal and relatable- if a little charmed. I think this is the perfect film to snuggle up and watch with some chocolates if you’re missing your loved one.

How to be Single

I LOVE this film! Whether you are single or in a relationship, this is the perfect feel-good film. Starring Rebel Wilson and Dakota Johnson, this is also a hilarious choice for any night-in with friends, and I really recommend checking it out this Valentine’s weekend.

Love, Rosie

I really need to re-watch this film, but sadly it’s not on Netflix anymore. Love, Rosie is a very frustrating tale of two friends that don’t realise they are meant to be together. It’s a will they/won’t they kind of romance film- and it’s another English classic rom-com that feels relevant and honest.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

I’ve added this choice to my list as it is a fun, young adult rom-com and the third film comes out this week I believe! I wasn’t a huge fan of the first film, but I really enjoyed the second one and I thought both films were fun, easy watching- perfect for a lockdown night in.

10 Things I Hate About You

I think this is my favourite film! 10 Things I Hate About You is perfect because it’s a great, funny film full of fantastic characters and great lines. But it’s also a romantic films meaning it’s a brilliant watch for this weekend.

Mean Girls

Let’s be honest, I’ve added this one because it recently came on to Netflix- and I love it! Until last week, I hadn’t watched this film since I first watched it as a teenager, and I loved re-living it this week. It’s not really a Valentine’s Day film, but it’s a great choice if you want something funny and light- and it’s a classic night-in film.

Isn’t it Romantic

This film is a little play on the typical American rom-com, starring Rebel Wilson (again) as the main character. It’s a film that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and I love watching light-hearted films, especially at this time of year.

Music and Lyrics

This is another of my favourite films. Starring Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant, this film is brilliant and it features some brilliant songs inspired by 80s bands such as Wham! I also love the romance element of this film, and it makes for perfect Valentine’s Day viewing.

What films are you going to watch on Valentine’s Day? What are your plans for this unusual Valentine’s weekend? Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Happy reading x

  1. I am ashamed to say I haven’t seen most of these but I’ve probably watched Music and Lyrics more than enough times to make up for it!

I am also ashamed to say that since I became a Dad my dance moves have very closely resembled Alex Fletcher’s and I just can’t stop it.

    Really good round up!

  2. What a great list. I’ve only heard of a couple of these movies, so I will have to take some time to check out the others. I’ve heard lots of good things about To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before – including how good the book was. I’m so happy to see 10 Things I Hate About You on this list, that is by far one of my favorite movies, I need to rewatch it soon! Though if I had to pick my ultimate favorite romance movie ti would be Your Name, it’s so good and I never grow tired of watching it.

  5. I’m in a similar situation where I’m not able to spend Valentine’s Day with my boyfriend! We’ve sent each other gifts though, so we’re going to video call and open our gifts and we might watch a film as well! I’ll have to save this post and come back to it for inspiration

  6. “10 Things I Hate About You” is one of my favorite movies! I’ve watched it many times, lol. Another one I really like that’s worth watching over & over is “In Her Shoes” with Cameron Diaz, Toni Collette, and Shirley MacLaine. Thank you for all the sweet romantic movie recommendations, I will check out the rest of them!

  7. I love many of the films you listed here! Mean Girls is a CLASSIC. I think I’ve watched it too many times that I’ve memorised the lines already :)) But I LOVE About Time and I cry every time I watch it. I just watched TATBILB 3 last night, and might now have to rewatch the first one – which is still the best out of the 3 for me πŸ™‚

  8. These are some fab films! Love, Rosie is one of my all-time faves – I love it! I really liked the first To All the Boys film but I found the second one so dull so I’m not sure whether to give the third one a go!

  11. Ah I haven’t seen Mean Girls for years – now really got the urge to watch it again. I recently re-watched 10 Things I Hate About You and I had honestly forgotten how fabulous that film is. Great list – I’ve got a few here to check out, thanks.

  12. Rebel Wilson really brings something delightful to the table in those movies. Also I really love Mean Girls. At the time it first came out I didn’t truly appreciate it, but now that I’m older I can understand why it’s a classic. Surprisingly I haven’t watched 10 Things I Hate About You even though it has been around forever. It’s just one of those films I never got around to, but thank you for reminding me of it! These are great choices!

  13. I love About Time and Love, Rosie, they’re two of my absolute favourite films, I’ve watched them so many times! Where can you find Music and Lyrics? Any film with Hugh Grant, I’m in! Have you seen the 2010 film Valentine’s Day? It’s really good too!!
