One of the big downsides of remote work is that you’re at home all day, everyday. If your workspace is cluttered like mine, it can really start to affect your productivity, your time management and your stress levels.
So, what can you do to organise your workspace? Let’s take a look at 5 easy tips for home storage, including ideas for freelancers and remote workers.
The best home storage solutions for your remote home office
I work from home everyday, so I need easy home storage solutions to keep my space clean, tidy and productive. Here are 5 affordable home storage tips for remote workers!
1. Organise your space
First and foremost, you need to tidy your space. Organise your files, stationery and other bits to make it easy to access everything you need for a productive day at work.
Here are some tips to organise your space:
- Create a filing system for your work documents
- Put a whiteboard on the wall to track your work schedule
- Use cable management tools like clips and ties
- Create clear zones at your desk, such as a computer zone and a writing zone
There’s nothing worse than a big pile of loose files on your desk while you work. You won’t be able to find what you need when you need it – and you’ll feel stressed by the disorganisation.
Organising your space makes it easier to create a productive home office. You can avoid distractions and keep your desk tidy throughout the week.
2. Under-desk storage solutions
Out of sight, out of mind! Invest in some under-desk storage to maximise your space, whether that’s boxes, drawers, mini filing cabinets or hanging bins.

My home office is in my living room, which means I don’t have a lot of dedicated storage space. I use desk drawers and boxes to keep stationery and files tucked away when I don’t need them.
3. Don’t forget about your cables
Use cable clips, ties, stickers and boxes to organise your cables. You can wrap them up nice and neat, and ensure everything is tucked away while you work.
This will make your workspace look a lot cleaner, and it’s also a safe way to use multiple cables for your computer, Wi-Fi and other digital devices.
4. Multi-functional furniture solutions
You don’t need to buy new storage solutions to properly organise your space. Make the most of the furniture you already have to create multi-functional storage solutions in your home.

If you work from your bedroom or spare room, use sliding wardrobes to organise your space. You can store your work files, stationery and digital devices, as well as clothes, shoes and toys.
Don’t pigeon-hole your furniture! You can use your cupboards, wardrobes, bedside tables, chest of drawers and bookshelves for both your work and life things.
5. Get out your label-maker
Okay, I don’t have a label-maker. But using labels or tags is a great way to keep track of all your bits and pieces. You can label files, drawers, boxes and cupboards to create an organised system for yourself.
If you’re forgetful like me, you’ll put everything away nice and neat, only to forget where you’ve put that one thing you really need. Labels stop that from happening.
Using neat and tidy home storage solutions will help you build a productive space to work. You can avoid distractions, feel peaceful and create all your best ideas!
