5 Tips to Give Your Life a Refresh in September

AD – This is a sponsored post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’ve always loved September! I was that nerd who was excited to start back at school, fresh stationery at the ready. But after I graduated from University, I said goodbye to the usual school term structure.

However, I still get that fresh September feeling at this time of year. The sun’s enjoying its last hurrah, Gilmore Girls is on the TV, the leaves are turning orange and the final quarter of the year is coming up.

I love seeing September as my very own fresh start – and there are a few great ways to give your life, your career or your business a refresh for the new season. Let’s take a look!

What is a September refresh?

September is the perfect time for a refresh. Summer is over and you can start to get into a new routine that suits you and your lifestyle.

In September, I get into full-on planning mode. I start thinking about where I am with my goals and what’s to come before the end of the year.

Even though it feels like Christmas was just 2 minutes ago, another year will come to an end before you know it. This is the time to look at how you want to use the last quarter of the year.

  • Do you want to start a side hustle?
  • Do you want to work from home more?
  • Do you want to focus on your health and well-being?
  • How do you want to build on your relationships or friendships?

It isn’t about changing everything you do. It’s just about finding small, fun and achievable ways to feel happy and refreshed in September. After all, why should kids have all the fun?

Tips to give your life a refresh in September

There are lots of ways to feel refreshed for the new season, including:

  1. Think about your goals
  2. Start a new hobby
  3. Create a new routine
  4. Declutter your space
  5. Refresh your style

Let’s take a closer look…

1. Think about your goals

If you set yourself goals at the start of the year, how is everything going? Are you on track? Do you need to set more objectives for the last chunk of the year?

Put aside some time to think about your goals in September. If you’re a remote worker or freelancer, I recommend chatting with a friend or colleague to bounce ideas, as this can help you get out of your head.

As well as looking forward, don’t forget to look back at everything you’ve achieved so far.

Do you have goals for your health or fitness? Do you want to meet new people? Are you looking for a change? There’s a lot to think about!

2. Start a new hobby

Starting a new hobby is a great way to feel motivated and refreshed in September. You could start a blog or create your own ebook to engage with other people and share knowledge of your industry.

If you don’t feel like starting a new hobby, why not do something a bit different? You could:

  • Go for a fun date night
  • Go to the cinema
  • Plan some fun Autumn activities
  • Book a holiday
  • Go for a day trip

Just because this is a great time to plan for the last quarter of the year, that doesn’t mean everything has to be about work. Get involved in fun activities that bring joy to your life!

3. Create a new routine

Creating a new routine can help you stay productive and meet all those end-of-year goals. You’ll get everything done, all while finding time to look after your physical and mental health.

You might want to put more focus on your exercise routine or you might need to give your work schedule a refresh. Whether you’re a translator or freelance writer, it’s all about building a routine that works for you!

You may also want to introduce a new hobby – or maybe you’re looking for a bit of work/life balance in September. Look into what you can do differently as we enter a new season.

4. Declutter your space

Give your life a refresh with a big declutter in September. This can help you clear out old rubbish and feel organised for the new month.

I used to love getting new stationery and notebooks for the school or University term, so why not bring a bit of that organisation to your life now?

It’s a well-known fact that mess and clutter can make you feel stressed – so a tidy space can help you feel productive, focused and calm in September.

5. Refresh your style

September is a great time to refresh your style. Clear out your wardrobe to make room for all your favourite Autumn outfits.

You can take old clothes to the charity shop or sell them on Vinted. That way, you’ll be starting the season with a wardrobe full of clothes that you actually want to wear.

  1. I love this! As a parent, September always feels like a fresh start as well. I have been doing quite a few of your suggestions already this month: decluttering & replacing old clothes with a few new items and changing my working hours to do more work from home days, meaning a shake-up of my my routines. This has also led me to have a change around of my work space. Something I’ve also got planned this month is to start making reading fiction a bigger part of my leisure time by setting a monthly book budget and making an “event” of browsing in a bookshop, buying a book, and then treating myself to lunch or coffee to sit and read…heaven! 💕

    1. Thank you, I learned from the best 🙂 I think taking the time to think about how you can move your routine around is so valuable. It’s a new season, so you’ll have different aims about you want from your time. I like changing up my working space when things are feeling a bit stale or uninspiring – and I love the idea of reading more fiction. Buying a book and taking it somewhere to read sounds heavenly, it’s all about enjoying those simple pleasures 🙂
