5 Books to Get Out of a Reading Slump

I’ve been reading for pleasure more and more, but it can be hard when you can’t find the “perfect” read.

When you’re in a reading slump, you need a book that you’re desperate to get back to – a book that you can tear through in a day!

In this blog post, I’ve put together 5 books to get out of a reading slump

‘The First Wife’ by Emily Barr

‘The First Wife’ by Emily Barr is a psychological thriller, and her books never fail to draw me in. With a Daphne Du Maurier feel to it, I would definitely recommend this thriller if you’re looking for a book that’s fast-paced, and keeps you guessing.

‘The Miseducation of Cameron Post’ by Emily Danforth

The Miseducation of Cameron Post’ by Emily Danforth follows the story of Cameron, a young girl growing up in America. She knows she’s different, and after she develops a crush on a girl at school her conservative Aunt sends her to a religious camp for similarly “afflicted” young people.

‘Purple Hibiscus’ by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

‘Purple Hibiscus’ by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a gripping, important book about the troubles in Nigeria. I love Adichie and her novels are so well-written. I especially love the description Adichie includes- her novels are always so rich and warm, and I really feel like I get a snapshot of Nigerian culture when I read her books.

‘Plan B’ by Emily Barr

Plan B’ by Emily Barr is a fantastic book to get out of a reading slump, as it’s fast-paced, easy to read, and full of interesting characters.

As always with books by Emily Barr, this book is full of twists and turns.

‘The Irresistible Blueberry Bakeshop and Cafe’ by Mary Simses

‘The Irresistible Blueberry Bakeshop and Café’ by Mary Simses is a brilliant read, and I love it’s warm and romantic feel.

I think when you’re in a reading slump, a simple romantic summer read can be the perfect way to reignite your love of reading.

Have you read any of these books? Do you enjoy reading “light” fiction? What do you read to get yourself out of a reading slump?

Let me know all your thoughts in the comments below 🙂

Happy reading x

  1. Im in a dreadful slump right now. Im reading lots but its book I’m having to force myself to read for uni. I can’t seem to pick up anything else. But I’m definitely going to try The Irresistible Blueberry Bakeshop. It sounds light and fun and I’m really drawn to that cover. Great post!!💗

  2. I haven’t actually read any of the books on this list. Do you know what that means? I’ve just added 5 new books to my TBR list – I’m going to have to start making more time to read if I’m going to get through the list at some point. Sounds like a great excuse to schedule some reading time into my daily schedule.

  3. Nice assortment of books! I haven’t read any of these! It sounds like The First Wife would be great to listen to – we enjoy listening to audiobooks on long drives. The Miseducation of Cameron Post and Purple Hibiscus both sound like books I’d like to read.
