Getting married in Winter isn’t always a couple’s first choice – but it gives you so many unique opportunities to celebrate your special day!
You could team your wedding with an occasion like Christmas or Valentine’s Day, or choose a great winter theme for your big day.
5 unique ideas for your Winter wedding
If you and your partner have decided to get married in November, December, January or February, there are so many ways to make the most of your Winter wedding, including:
- Go cosy!
- Look into the latest trends
- Use outdoor spaces
- Explore your decoration options
- Create a Winter wonderland
Let’s take a look at these ideas in a bit more detail…
1. Go cosy!
Why not go cosy for your Winter wedding? You could lean into your theme by celebrating in a cabin or lodge to build an intimate reception for you and your guests.

There are lots of ways to create cosy Winter wedding vibes, including:
- Decorate with candles for ambiance
- Serve comfort food, s’mores, hot chocolate and mulled wine
- Choose a venue with wood-burning fires
- Ask your guests to wear plenty of layers
Celebrate your special day with a warm, relaxed and rustic wedding for everyone.
2. Look into the latest trends
Wedding trends are changing all the time! From when you want to hold your ceremony to what food you want to serve your guests, look into the latest trends for seasonal wedding ideas.
You never know – you might find a bit of inspiration for your own wedding.
You could research Winter wedding decor trends or check out the latest trends in engagement rings. In 2024, oval-cut diamond rings are very popular.
3. Use outdoor spaces
Just because you’re celebrating your wedding in Winter, that doesn’t mean you can’t make the most of outdoor areas. You can use outdoor heaters and beautiful lighting to create a cute and memorable Winter wedding ceremony for your guests.

In Winter, we still get some beautiful sunny days that could brighten up your wedding photos. Don’t forget to utilise venues with gorgeous outdoor spaces.
4. Create a Winter Wonderland
If you’re looking for creative Winter wedding inspiration, why not create a Winter wonderland for you and your guests?
You can use faux snow – or even go somewhere with real snow! Choosing an icy blue colour scheme, silver decorations and white flowers can help you create a beautiful wedding reception.
You could even use a Christmas theme for your Winter wedding – or host it on Valentine’s Day to add a romantic touch to your special day.
5. Explore your decoration options
Every couple will have different ideas for their dream wedding – and there are so many unique ways to decorate your Winter wedding celebration.
You could string up fairy lights, dust glitter around your venue or pick out your favourite flowers

It might help to choose a colour scheme for your Winter wedding, as this can inform your decoration choices. For example, if you choose a white colour scheme, simple flowers and white lights can create an elegant backdrop for your celebration.

I really like the idea of a winter wedding, and have even seen some beautiful examples of ones done at Christmas. I’ve been married for quite a while, but if we ever decide to do some kind of renewal, I would consider something wintery! Great post.
