8 Places I Want to Visit in Italy

AD- This a sponsored post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Italy is right at the top of my travel list, and there are so many amazing places I want to visit in this warm and varied country.

As a history lover, Italy has so many historical buildings and interesting spots, and I would love to wander around one of its famous art galleries- with a scoop of gelato, of course.

From historical attractions to gorgeous weather, Italy has it all. And you really can’t beat the food!

In this post, I’ve put together the top 8 places I want to visit in Italy when I next travel abroad.

1. Naples

While I’m in Italy, I want to try lots of tasty food! Naples is known for its ice-cream and pizza, and there are so many places to explore in this pretty city.

Naples is also on the coast, and it looks like a picturesque place to enjoy a trip away.

There are lots of ways to make a booking for fantastic holiday accommodation across Italy, including ebooking sites that put together any information you might need about your hotel.

These sites also allow you to make a reservation for a service via the Internet.

2. Rome

Rome is a history lover’s dream! In Rome, ancient history surrounds you- and there are so many things I would like to do in Italy’s capital city.

From taking a tour of the Colosseum to taking a picture in front of the Trevi fountain, Rome is steeped in history and culture.

3. Verona

Ever since I watched the film ‘Letters to Juliet‘, I have been obsessed with going to Verona!

This is where Shakespeare set his play ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and there are lots of romantic spots to check out in this picturesque city.

I really want to visit Juliet’s balcony in Verona. I think this would be an amazing place to visit in Italy when I get the chance.

4. Florence

Florence looks like such a beautiful city, with lots of churches and spots of religious history. There are also lots of art galleries and museums in Florence that I would love to check out.

I loved learning about the Medicis in University, and even just wandering around the city, with its beautiful architecture, would be enough for me!

5. Pompeii

Pompeii is like a museum in itself. As a history lover, it is somewhere I would love to visit.

It is the oldest archeological site in the world, and the whole city has been excavated to see what it looked like before Mount Vesuvius erupted and covered the city in molten ash.

6. Venice

Venice has always interested me, especially because it’s so different to anywhere else I’ve ever been.

Using gondolas to get around the city instead of walking is one of the reasons why Venice is so famous, and I think a visit to this city would be such a unique experience.

7. Vatican City

The Vatican City is technically a sovereign state in its own right, but it is a place I would love to visit if I ever travel over to that area of the world.

Despite not being religious myself, I am very interested in religious history- and I would love to see everything this tiny place has to offer.

8. Pisa

Are you really a tourist in Italy if you don’t take a cheesy picture with the leaning tower of Pisa?!

I would love to check out Pisa for its rich history and culture, including lots of ancient churches and even a few medieval palaces.

Is there anywhere in Italy that you would like to visit? What is your favourite holiday destination? Do you have any recommendations for places to visit in Italy?

Let me know all your thoughts in the comments below 🙂

Happy reading x

  1. I love this post! Definitely want to visit all those cities as well, Rome is very high on my list! I visited Venice in 2019 during my honeymoon (had a fantastic time), and well, sadly I was also all for the gondolas.. until I saw the price for them. Haha. After that we just walked or took a ferry. XD

      1. It was quite a shock when we went to one such gondola and saw the prices. We had expected some cost, but this. Nope. XD Yep! It is a beautiful city, you can lost in it for days. Plus, fantastic food! Thank you! *crosses fingers*

  2. This is such a good post. It brought back some wonderful memories for me personally. I loved Florence, and if anyone goes please make the effort to walk the Vasari Corridor, which the old Medici’s used. Pisa was a delight, but you only need a day there. I also recommend Milan, and a visit to the majestic cathedral. I do love Italy, could very happily live there; the people and the culture are just so wonderful.

  3. There are so many beautiful places in Italy! I’ve only been once, it was to Lago Maggiore which was absolutely stunning. We drove through France to get there, past Mount Blanc which made it even more fun x

  4. We went to Florence for part of our honeymoon. Beautiful but I’d love to go back. Our Pisa trip, the coach never turned up to pick us up – I was fuming as it was our last day so we totally missed out. I’d love to visit more of Italy

  10. I love Italy. Lucky enough to have visited these places more than once. The people and the climate are warm, the food and regional wines delicious, and if you toss a coin in the Trevi Fountain, you get to return.

Get a green Michelin guide book. It is an excellent way to prepare for your first visit and those to follow. The gelato is a must!
