5 Shows to Watch if You’re Missing Travel

For a lot of us, this year has meant no travel. This may mean you’ve not been able to visit your favourite city, go on holiday or meet up with loved ones.

For those who are used to packing up and exploring foreign lands, this year has been tough – and we’ve all felt a bit trapped.

A great way to curb this feeling is to immerse yourself in the travel of others – enjoying your favourite shows and books about faraway places while you’re stuck inside.

In this blog post, I’ve come up with 5 shows that are perfect to watch if you’re missing travel – or you need to be transported far away from home!

There are lots of great shows to watch if you’re missing travel. Here are some of my favourites:

  1. ‘Emily in Paris’
  2. ‘Selling Sunset’
  3. ‘The Hook-Up Plan’
  4. Jack Whitehall: Travels With My Father’
  5. ‘How I Met Your Mother’

Let’s take a look at each of these shows in a little more detail.

‘Emily in Paris’

Emily in Paris‘ is light-hearted, funny and just random enough to work.

It is problematic in its representation of moving abroad, building an online following and life in Paris – but it’s a brilliant watch that really transports you over to France.

If you’re missing travel right now, let this show give you a sugar-coated, beautiful version of Parisian life and culture.

‘Selling Sunset’

Checking out the houses of rich people in sunny Los Angeles – what better way to imagine you’re no longer in freezing cold England?!

I haven’t actually watched this show yet, but I’ve heard good things about it and it sounds perfect if you’re missing the escapism and warmer climates that travel can bring.

‘The Hook-Up Plan’

I love this show a lot – and it’s a much more realistic view of Paris than ‘Emily in Paris’ – if still very charming!

Following three friends as they navigate adult life, I love the romance, humour and female friendships in this show.

‘The Hook Up Plan’ is full of fun, crazy French scenes – and it’s one of my favourite foreign-language shows to check out.

‘Jack Whitehall: Travels with my Father’

This show is funny and full of very random excursions, but it also showcases a lot of cultures across the world – including Asia, Australia and Eastern Europe.

Travel with Jack and his hilarious father to immerse yourself in different cultures and traditions.

‘How I Met Your Mother’

I love ‘How I Met Your Mother’, and it definitely makes me want to visit New York!

It looks like such an interesting city and a lot of my favourite shows are set there – including ‘Gossip Girl‘ and ‘Friends’, too.

I recommend checking out this show for a fun, binge-worthy comedy – and you’ll also get a bit of inspiration for your next trip abroad when we can all travel again.

What do you think of these shows to watch if you’re missing travel? Where do you want to travel after the pandemic finishes? What is your favourite show for a bit of escapism?

  5. I’m not sure if travel between fantasy realms counts as a travel show but I’m escaping into Once Upon A Time at the moment, and trying to finish the last 2 seasons before it disappears from Netflix on 18 May!

  15. I was actually expecting to see a list of travel shows or shows that feature a lot of traveling in some form or another, rather than being hit in the sentimentals with How I Met Your Mother, I loved that show

  16. I have definitely been missing travel! I’ve always thought Travels with my Father was brilliant, both for the lovely locations they visit, how funny it is but also how sweet their relationship is. HIMYM is one of my longstanding faves too, and largely the reason I want to visit New York as well!

  17. I have seen and love the all apart from The Hook-Up Plan, seems we have similar tastes! So it’s definitely on my list. Thanks for sharing 🙂

  18. I loved the hook up plan! Only season I didn’t like was when they filmed it like during covid times because who wants to watch real life? Haha! Emily in Paris was kinda rubbish but like in a good way!

  19. I love that How I Met Your Mother is on your list! It was a show I followed growing up (although I’m still upset at the ending 😂) but it is such a funny show. I’ve heard of the other shows in your list, but have yet to watch them 🙂 I’d probably watch Emily in Paris just to reminisce the beauty of Paris hahaha

    1. The ending is awful haha but yes it’s such a great show! I hope you enjoy them, it’s certainly brilliant to see faraway places and reminisce about countries you’ve visited 🙂

  20. Jack Whitehall and his dad are hilarious! I’ve heard mixed things about Emily in Paris (mostly how unrealistic her wardrobe is and lack of French acclimation) but, as a huge fan of Paris it looks absolutely stunning!

    1. They have a great on-screen relationship! Yes it’s very unrealistic haha and I agree that it’s not something that should be taken seriously- but it’s a great light-hearted choice x

  21. So I’ve seen Emily in Paris and How I Met Your Mother. Emily in Paris is interesting because it got really bad reviews so I’d be interested in your thoughts! I think I could go for Selling Sunset it looks like the kind of thing to watch after a long day. And I do like Jack Whitehall’s comedy so something to think about
