5 Fashion Staples for Your Autumn Wardrobe

This is a collaborative post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

When I think of Autumn fashion, I think of classic films like ‘When Harry Met Sally’ and ‘You’ve Got Mail’. It’s a time for cosy jumpers, thick tights and long skirts.

At the start of the new season, I like to spend a bit of time sorting out my Autumn wardrobe. I sell any clothes I don’t wear anymore and I put together a few new outfits.

Sometimes, I buy new clothes. However, more often than not, I already have the pieces in my wardrobe – I just need to give them a little tweak for the colder months!

So, what fashion staples do you need in your Autumn wardrobe? How can you use what you already have? Let’s take a closer look.

5 fashion staples for an Autumn wardrobe

Let’s take a look at 5 staples for your Autumn wardrobe, including tips and tricks to give your life a refresh for the new season.

1. Trench coat

A trench coat is a great way to add a Fall touch to any outfit. Trench coats are chic and stylish – and they perfectly encapsulate Autumn fashion for me.

I’m not a big fan of coats, as I find them quite cumbersome, especially as I’m short. However, trench coats always seem to fit right.

They’re easy to throw on over your regular outfits – and you can pick up a range of different styles to find out how to best wear your trench coat.

2. Boots

Last year, I got a pair of suede, heeled knee boots, and they’re now my favourite Autumn staple. They’re warm and suitable for everyday wear, but they add a special little touch to all my dresses.

It’s funny how just one piece of clothing can make you feel ready for the new season. Pick up a pair of comfortable ankle boots, knee boots or even thigh boots. It’s up to you!

3. Oversized shirts

According to Vogue, oversized shirts are a classic look you always need in your wardrobe. You don’t have to buy anything to create your perfect Autumn outfit. This is an easy, trendy way to make the most of those old Summer shirts gathering dust in your wardrobe.

Layer up your shirts to create a warm, fashionable outfit for the new season, or pick out a few cosy new shirts in warm colours like oranges, browns and yellows.

4. Cable knit jumper

There are so many beautiful cable knit jumpers and sweaters out there. A jumper is such a versatile piece of clothing. You can get it out year after year – or team it with your midi skirts, jeans, shirts and dresses to create a range of comfortable Autumnal outfits.

If you don’t fancy a jumper, why not pick up a cable knit dress? Make sure to team your dress with thick tights and boots to look like you’ve just stepped off the set of a Nora Ephron movie!

5. Midi dress

Midi dresses or skirts are a great fashion staple for this time of year. They’re comfortable and flattering for all body types – and they look so stylish.

Whether you’re looking for women’s black dresses or you fancy getting a new denim midi skirt for your wardrobe, there’s a lot of choice out there.

I need to take my own advice here. I love the look of midi dresses on other people, but I always opt for short dresses and skirts myself. I need to find that one midi dress that suits me – then it’ll be my go-to every Autumn!

What is one Autumn fashion staple you can’t go without? What is your favourite outfit for Autumn? Do you have any tips for warm, cosy outfits?
