5 Tips to Follow Your Intuition in 2024

AD – This is a sponsored post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

In 2024, I chose “intuition” as my word for the year. Following your intuition is an important way to tune into your body and mind – and trusting your gut can tell you when something is right for you.

Using your intuition can help you move away from the things, people or opportunities that no longer work for you, helping you maintain healthy habits and improve your personal development.

What does it mean to follow your intuition?

Following your intuition can encompass so many different things. It’s about making decisions based on gut feeling and understanding what you need from day to day.

This can apply to your personal and work life. In my personal life, I want to learn to give my body what it needs to support my fitness journey – and I want to use my intuition to make decisions. I hope this will reduce anxiety and guide me to make the right choices for me.

Following your intuition is very important if you’re a freelancer or remote worker. If you’re a freelancer, you do everything for yourself – and you need to make daily decisions about your career, your processes and your work/life balance.

However, learning to follow your intuition and trust your judgement is important for anything in life – and it can help you make quick, healthy decisions about the people, activities and jobs in your life.

5 ways to follow your intuition in 2024

There are lots of ways to let your intuition guide you, including:

  1. Don’t ignore red flags
  2. Stay present
  3. Give yourself an appraisal
  4. Use your experiences to guide you
  5. Listen to your body

Let’s take a look at these 5 easy ideas in a little more detail…

1. Don’t ignore red flags

Listening to your intuition is all about spotting red flags – and learning not to ignore them.

Your gut will usually tell you if something feels right. If you get a strange feeling about a client opportunity or a friend makes you feel bad about yourself, think about how you can change your approach.

When you see a red flag, learn to follow your intuition by taking a step back. This will give you time to think about how you want to continue, rather than blindly staying in a situation that doesn’t work for you.

2. Stay present

Staying present is an important way to follow your instincts and trust your gut. There are a few ways to stay mindful, such as meditation or journaling.

Take a second to slow down and think through your actions. This can help you make clearer decisions based on how you feel.

It can also help to do a “body scan”. This is a mindful practice that encourages you to take note of how you feel, including each part of your body and mind.

By taking time to bring yourself back to the present moment, you can spot any issues – and tune into what your body needs.

3. Give yourself an appraisal

Giving yourself an appraisal is a great way to follow your intuition in 2024, particularly when it comes to your work life. Whether you’re a freelancer or you provide remote translation services, sit yourself down and ask yourself a few questions:

  • Am I happy?
  • Do I feel satisfied?
  • Do I have a good work/life balance?
  • What are my goals?
  • What have I achieved since my last appraisal?
  • How can I improve what I’m doing?

This will help you gauge how you feel about your work – and you can use it for your personal life, too. By writing down your answers to these questions, you can identify any issues before they turn into something more sinister.

For example, I worked with a very toxic client a couple of years ago. I was rushed off my feet, but if I’d taken the time to think through my work and write down my feelings, I might have taken a step back – and I might have avoided burning out.

Sometimes, it’s easy to ignore your intuition and just keep going. Take a second to discuss your feelings with yourself – or with someone else – to tune into how you’re actually feeling.

4. Use your experiences to guide you

As with anything in life, learning how to follow your intuition is all about practice. You need to use your previous experiences to guide you. Did you do something similar in the past? How did it affect you? Will that help with your current situation?

field and path: tips to follow your intuition

Let’s say you’re not sure whether to accept a client opportunity. Think back to similar clients in the past. Was the work enjoyable? Did you get a lot out of it? Were you paid in full? Was it manageable with your other work?

All situations are different, but looking at previous experiences can help you understand your decisions – and you can develop your intuition, too.

5. Listen to your body

Following your intuition is all about listening to the small clues you give yourself about what you need.

It’s important to listen to what your body needs from day to day. If you’re feeling fatigued, maybe you need to look into changing your diet or exercise regime? Or if you’re feeling anxious about meeting up with friends, maybe you need to alter your plans?

It might not always be clear how to listen to your body. For example, if you struggle with anxiety, you might find it hard to differentiate between a situation that isn’t right for you and your general anxiety about it.

I’m still in the process of working out when I need to take a step back – and when it’s okay to push myself. As you learn to follow your intuition, you’ll get a better idea about what’s right for you!

I discuss all of this and more in my ebook ‘The Art of Balance‘. Learn to listen to your body, avoid burnout and add balance to your business.

  1. Thank you for sharing these ideas on following your intuition – it can be so difficult sometimes to find what works for you, but these ideas are a good benchmark to work through! 😀 I am finding that as I get older and go through a new phase in my life, I am trying to tune in to the things that make me feel good and letting go of the things thst don’t. It isn’t always easy, especially when other people put demands on you, but it is worth the effort 😀

    1. Thank you! I think you have to find what works for you. Like you say, it’s not always easy – but it gets better with practice.

That sounds really healthy. You need to focus on the things that bring you joy – and learn to say “no” to the things you don’t want in your life 🙂

Thank you for reading and sharing!

  2. I seem to have a pretty strong intuition that has shown itself to be invaluable throughout my life (from a child until now), and I never thought about nurturing before, so this was really useful. I just usually take notice when I feel it but don’t always follow it (which previous experience has shown me that I really should). Great information here; thanks for sharing!

  3. This was a really helpful breakdown of how to follow your intuition. I usually do pretty good join of listening to my intuition but sometimes I ignore it. This is a good reminder of how and why I should follow it more often.
