6+ Ideas to Celebrate Valentine’s Day in a Long-Distance Relationship

If you’re in a long-distance relationship, it can be hard to celebrate occasions such as Valentine’s Day- especially if you’re not able to meet up with each other. Trust me, I’ve been there!

However, just because you can’t meet up in person, it doesn’t mean you can’t find lots of fun ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

You might be too far away to visit your Valentine this year, or you might just need a few alternative ideas to make this Valentine’s Day extra special while you and your partner spend some time apart.

In this blog post, find 6+ ideas to celebrate Valentine’s Day in a long-distance relationship!

1. Arrange a video call

If you can’t see your long-distance partner on Valentine’s Day, why not arrange a video call?

This gives you chance to catch-up after work or enjoy an online date together, even if you can’t meet-up in person.

2. Send special gifts

There are so many lovely gifts that you can send through the post! If you can’t see your long-distance partner on Valentine’s Day, send them a special gift to open on the day.

You could send flowers, chocolates or just a unique gift that you know they’ll love. You could even make this a surprise for your partner, to add a smile to their day.

3. Meet up!

If possible, you and your partner could arrange a long-distance meet-up for Valentine’s Day.

One of the best things about a long-distance relationship is finding time to plan a visit, especially when it gives you something to look forward to.

As Valentine’s Day is a weekday this year, it’s possible that many long-distance couples won’t be able to meet up.

However, you could spend Valentine’s weekend together or just celebrate this occasion at a different time.

4. Celebrate with friends and family

Valentine’s Day is all about celebrating love for everyone in our life, including friends, family and ourselves.

Just because you can’t see your partner on Valentine’s Day, it doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate love. You could buy a little gift for your best friend or spend the day with your family.

My parents have always given me and my sibling a little something on Valentine’s Day- and I think this is a lovely way to show all kinds of love, not just romantic.

5. Write to each other

If you’re in a long-distance relationship, why not write a little note to your partner?

Receiving a card or a letter in the post can be a lovely little boost, especially when you’re feeling sad or missing your partner.

6. Play a quiz!

Me and my boyfriend were in a long-distance relationship during the pandemic– and so everyone was playing quizzes!

If you live too faraway from your partner to visit or you just can’t organise a trip, it’s a good idea to come up with an inventive long-distance date activity.

You could create your own quiz for each other or find one online. This is a great way to break up your video call date a little bit, adding a fun touch to your Valentine’s Day celebrations.

7. Treat yourself

Long-distance relationships are tough- so this is the perfect time to treat yourself. You could take yourself out for food or buy yourself something to celebrate.

After all, you are the most important person in your life!

8. Make a few drinks

Why not prop up your phone and video call your partner while you make a few drinks?

When you’re in a long-distance relationship, it’s all about finding unique ways to re-create in-person dates.

  1. Some lovely ideas here! I had an idea to do something similar but next year. My friend got married to her long-distance partner and she’s moving out there this coming month. So I wanted to get a forward from here on the stark differences in long distance and local.

  2. Fantastic ideas! My husband and I were long-distance for almost the first year of our relationship. I was a senior in college and he was working. We saw each other as much as we could – It was 150 miles between us, so it was drivable. We also called, texted, and Skyped!

  3. Great post! Have had two long-distance relationships and can definitely agree that these tips really work well! Especially video-calling – having a date on video call where you both dress up and have a meal together while talking and playing games. Just like an interactive date! Thanks for sharing xx

  4. These are fantastic ideas! It’s great that we can video call these days; my parents have been long-distance for years, and my dad video calls my mom practically every day. Thanks for sharing x

  6. I love this! Such good ideas. I think you can totally still celebrate “together” even if you’re apart. FaceTime dates can be so cute and fun! For example, you can order food for the other person without telling them what it is and then eat together on FT! So cute ❤
