5 Books On My April Reading List

I’ve finally started to get back into reading everyday, and I’ve been loving it! After experiencing several reading slumps, I’ve started to prioritise reading during my down time again.

I keep thinking of more and more books I want to read, and I’ve even downloaded the Sheffield Libraries App to keep on top of my loans.

Libraries are fantastic places! Ever since I was little, they have been an amazing way for me to read lots of books without having to buy them all.

I never would have been able to read half the books I have without the library- and I really recommend checking out your local library system!

I love thinking of new books I want to read soon, and I’m constantly adding to my reading list when I think of new ideas or when I hear new book recommendations.

In this post, I’ve put together 5 books on my April reading list. Don’t forget to let me know all of your recommendations too!

1. ‘Moving Beyond Words’ by Gloria Steinem

I love Gloria Steinem, but I’ve not managed to read this one yet! My parents bought it for me for Christmas, so it’s taken me a while to get round to this one.

I love reading a bit of non-fiction if it is by someone interesting or inspiring, and Steinem’s writing is relevant even today.

I also love all of Gloria Steinem’s other books, so I’m sure I’ll find this one equally as captivating.

2. ‘Wolf Hall’ by Hilary Mantel

I recently received a recommendation for this book, and I really want to give it a go!

I love the Tudors, and I think this will be an insightful and well-written look into the Tudor period, including all the bits of history I love to read about.

‘Wolf Hall’ is all about the events of the Tudor period from the perspective of Thomas Cromwell, and it is definitely high on my April reading list.

3. ‘Panic Years’ by Nell Frizzell

This is a bit of a cheat because I’m actually reading this book at the moment- but I’ll finish it in April.

‘Panic Years’ is a sort of biography by Nell, talking all about her life as a single 20- and 30-something, and that all consuming question: does she want a baby or not?

I’ve really enjoyed reading this book. Even though I think it is probably aimed at a slightly older audience, I love Nell’s honest narration.

It is such an insightful and interesting look into the “big” questions in life, particularly for women.

4. ‘Theroux the Keyhole’ by Louis Theroux

I recently took this book out from the library, and I’m really excited to try it. I love Louis Theroux, and I find his documentaries so interesting.

He always chooses to investigate relevant topics or communities, and I love the style of his honest and raw documentaries.

I’m excited to find out more about Louis Theroux and his work in this book. This is definitely up there on my April reading list!

5. ‘The Distance’ by Zoe Folbigg

I picked this book up from my local library.

A fiction book about two people in a long-distance relationship, this book interested me- and I thought it sounded like the perfect addition to my April reading list.

‘The Distance’ is about two people who think they’ve found love, but there are lots of obstacles in their way. It sounds light-hearted and easy, the perfect Spring read!

Have you read any of these books? What is on your April reading list? Do you like to read fiction or non-fiction books?

Let me know all your thoughts in the comments below 🙂

Happy reading x

  1. Wow, this list sounds interesting. I never heard of any of these. Panic Years sounds like a good one and totally relevant at the moment. I shall look it up. My April reading list so far has been Rich Dad, Poor Dad (book club pick), How To Take Smart Notes, I also have Ultalearning, Learning How To Learn, The Disciplines of Execution and The Richest Man In Babylon on my reading list for April. Most likely these will run into May. Currently trying to optimise my learning. I enjoy both non-fiction and fiction books, but I’m more in the non-fiction mode these days. Thanks for sharing your list.

  2. I had no idea libraries had apps. I wonder if other libraries have similar apps as well or if it’s just the one you use. Five books are a lot of books to read, maybe it just seems that way because I rarely read books. Are you planning to read all five by the end of April?

    1. I think Sheffield Libraries is great- hopefully other ones have these innovations too! I was planning to read at least a couple of them, but I’m still making my way through some of them haha

  3. Lovely list of books, Eleanor! We talked about Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall last year at university, I’ll definitely read it! I can’t wait to hear what you will think of it. I’m going to start reading Circe by Madeline Miller this week, hopefully! 🙂 Happy reading x Penny / http://www.whatdidshetype.com

  4. Ooo these books sound amazing, I really hope you manage to read them all as they sound great. I especially love the sound of ‘Theroux The Keyhole’ – that sounds right up my street. I think I may have to give that a cheeky purchase myself to read this month. Thank you so much for sharing with us lovely, I hope you enjoy Xo

  5. Nice list of books! They all sound interesting. I’m also a fan of Gloria Steinem, but have not read “Moving Beyond Words” yet, either. I will put it on my list. The last book by Steinem that I read was “My Life On The Road” and I highly recommend it. I enjoy both fiction and non-fiction books. Thanks for sharing your picks!

  6. These all sound good! I hope you get to read all of them! I am not in a regular habit of reading…which is crazy because I love reading! I do take my kids to the library often – 2-4 times per month. Libraries are such important and amazing places! My kids and I have discovered some amazing books and authors while browsing through the shelves. 🙂

    1. Thank you Heidi! I am not very regular either- other things get in the way. That’s so lovely, we used to go to the library a lot when I was little and it was such a memorable time 🙂 x

  9. I haven’t read any of these, but Panic Years sounds like something I could enjoy! I haven’t been much on top of my TBR this month, but found too that the app to get books from the library is so so useful!

  10. Have had The Panic Years on my wishlist for quite a while, hopefully I’ll actually pick it up this year. Will be really interested to hear what you think of Wolf Hall. I love history but am always slightly wary of historical fiction.
