5 Reasons Sex Education Series 3 Could be Your Next Watch

I recently spoke about why ‘Becoming’ by Michelle Obama could be your next read, and today I’m discussing a must-watch to add to your list- ‘Sex Education’.

The third series of ‘Sex Education’ came out on 16th September 2021.

I was so excited to watch another 8 episodes of funny, open and relevant sex education content that’s full of diverse characters and storylines!

In this post, I’ve come up with 5 reasons why ‘Sex Education’ series 3 could be your next watch!

1. There’s something for everyone

In this series of ‘Sex Education’, the focus was yet again on a wide range of characters.

I enjoyed following the storylines of the adult characters such as Maureen and Jean, as well as understanding what is troubling the students at Moordale High.

There really is something for everyone in this show!

Series 3 gives viewers a chance to understand everything from pregnancy as a slightly older woman, to navigating your first relationship with a same sex partner.

2. Friendship

I love the portrayal of friendship in this show, and series 3 definitely delivered another dose of fun and unexpected friendships to follow.

I liked the blossoming friendship between Adam and Rahim, and it was great to see how all the friendships changed and developed.

The unlikely friendship between Aimee and Maureen Groff was so much fun to watch. Let’s be honest, I’m down for any scene that includes Aimee (and Goat).

3. It’s accurate!

‘Sex Education’ is completely accurate when it comes to sex and relationships education- and it doesn’t beat around the bush!

I loved the accurate information given to the characters about STIs, using condoms and the ability to prevent HIV using medication.

Series 3 discusses female pleasure, vulvas, and it introduces the show’s first non-binary character.

It provides some much-needed honesty about sex and relationships, and discusses subjects that we don’t normally discuss, such as disability and sex.

4. ‘Sex Education’ shows that abstinence teaching doesn’t work

In series 3 of ‘Sex Education’, Moordale High gets a new head teacher who is determined to “clean-up” Moordale, or “sex school” as it is known after the antics of the last series.

She introduces a new abstinence RSE, teaching students to stop having sex, rather than teaching them how to have sex safely.

The students are taught to feel shame about their sex lives, and it causes big issues at the school.

In real life, this kind of teaching is all too common- and it doesn’t work, a fact the students at Moordale High make abundantly clear!

I think it’s great to show an over-the-top view of abstinence teaching, to drive home the idea that this kind of archaic view of sex education is very outdated.

5. It’s funny!

Above all, ‘Sex Education’ is just a good watch!

Yes, it tackles some relevant issues, and it promotes my view that all sex education needs to be open and honest (think Jean Milburn…).

But ‘Sex Education’ is also just a funny, interesting and entertaining show to watch.

It’s relevant, accurate and different to anything I’ve ever watched, and series 3 brings with it a whole new set of storylines and funny characters.

I can’t wait to see what storylines they come up with for series 4.

  3. I agree with everything you’ve said! I binged watched each season the week it came out, and I love the friendships, honestly, and humour they have in the show. It explores tough subjects in a way that makes me wish I had the show to watch when I was younger.

    I love how they further developed the friendship between Amiee and Maeve and showed the ups and downs of friendship. I love the scenes with Amiee and the goat too! 😂

    I hope this show has a series 4! Thank you for sharing your opinions of this show. 😊

    1. Yes definitely, it’s so open and helps you really understand different issues without being patronising 🙂 yes me too, it was great to see that no friendship is perfect and any scene with Aimee is my favourite! Me too x

  6. As a massive fan of this I totally agree. I met Sam who plays Maureen Groff and she was delightful. She is one the funniest people in it, along with brilliant Asa and Gillian. Ok I admit, it is just perfect.

  7. Sex Education is such a brilliant show! I really didn’t like watching when Adam, Lily and someone else had to wear those signs, it made me want to cry, though I do totally get the importance of showing it x

  8. I’ve heard a lot about this show but haven’t seen any of it yet. I did just finish binge-watching Scrubs so I was looking for a new series. Thanks for the recommendation!

  11. I have heard so much of Sex Education and one of my sisters keeps telling me to watch it, but haven’t got around to it yet! You totally convinced me though that I need to watch it asap! I love a great show about friendships and have such an important topic as sex ed as a main focus x

  16. This sounds like a really interesting show to watch. I think sex education is so important. When I was in high school we got 3 days of sex ed. Plus it was like we weren’t allowed to talk about it. So wrong! Great show for raising awareness 🙂 I’ll have to stick it on the watch list.

  17. Watched it as soon as it came out haha . Absolutely LOVE Sex Education. I also just rewatched the whole thing because my boyfriend hadn’t seen it and I was adamant that he should watch it (he didn’t think he’d like it – he loved it!) I can’t wait for series 4. It’s such an important show but so entertaining too x

  18. I haven’t watched season 3 yet but I’m blooming excited too! I think it’s a really good educational show which I know will help many young children as they grow older. Love this show a lot! Xo
