8 Growing Charities to Support this Autumn

I recently asked my Twitter followers to tell me their favourite supportive accounts or charities, to create a positive thread of places to go when you need support or advice.

This gave me an idea for a blog post, curating 8 of these fantastic charity accounts to create a list of places you can visit to support a growing charity or find help.

I want to feature charities I’ve not heard about before, and I’ve chosen organisations with less than 4,000 followers on social media who deal with a range of causes. I hope to shine a light on the important work of charities big and small!

In this blog post, I’ve put together a list of 8 growing charities to support this Autumn.

1. Maytree Respite Centre

Maytree Respite Centre is a UK charity that helps those experiencing suicidal thoughts. There’s a helpline to offer support for those who are struggling, giving them a chance to discuss their feelings with volunteers in a safe and compassionate space.

This is a great charity to support this Autumn. Check out their Twitter or website for more.

2. Wednesday’s Child

Wednesday’s Child is a charity that provides essential eating disorder support, including coaching and education in schools to help young people understand the support they need.

I love the work that this charity does for people who need help with eating disorder support, and the need for better, more relevant teaching about these subjects is so important.

Check out their website or Twitter to find out more about this growing charity this Autumn.

3. Orri UK

Orri UK is a private service that also provides eating disorder support for people across the UK.

While it is not a charity, it works with the NHS to provide an accessible service to as many people as possible. This organisation teaches people that recovery is possible, and offers online or in-person support and advice.

It also advises people how to help their loved one, and gives them the help they need.

Find out more on their website or Twitter page.

4. We Hear You

We Hear You is a fantastic, UK-based organisation that provides free counselling to those affected by life-threatening illnesses, such as cancer. Medical issues can be such a daunting time for the family of those who are ill, as well as the person themselves.

I can’t wait to see how this growing charity continues to help people. Find out more on their website or Twitter account.

5. Snowdon Trust

The Snowdon Trust helps young people and students to access academic or vocational courses in the UK, such as offering extra support when they need it and supporting applications.

This charity also awards grants to young people, to help them access essential study needs. I love the work that this charity does for young people, and it is a great growing charity to support this Autumn.

Find out more via their website or Twitter.

6. Hospital Rooms

This is a lovely charity that aims to improve patients’ experience of mental health hospitals using art and decorations, creating a welcoming and more positive space for those who are struggling.

This sounds like such a fantastic charity, find out more via their Twitter account.

7. Back Off Scotland

Back Off Scotland is a charity that is doing fantastic things for those trying to access abortions in Scotland.

It aims to create a buffer around Scottish abortion clinics, letting people access abortion without shame, violence or pressure. This charity is one to follow and support this Autumn.

Find their Twitter (and petition) here.

8. National Association for PMS

This fantastic charity aims to improve understanding and treatment for people suffering from PMS. So little is known about what people who menstruate go through every single month, so this charity encourages people to understand their bodies.

Find out more on their Twitter page or website.

Are there any growing charities you want to support this Autumn? What is your favourite growing charity? What do you think of these charities?

  3. What a great post to write about. Charities do such incredible work, and I love that you’re sharing with your audience who they are to raise their awareness. If I’m honest, I’ve not heard of any of these, so thanks for sharing 🙂

    1. That’s so great Jenny, well done 🙂 your post about the 6 charities you support (from a while back) actually inspired this post, as well as the suggestions I got from my followers about little-known (but still important) charities and causes x

  4. Interesting charities. I support One Chance Foundation from Karen Kingsbury. They help place children to be adopted. And I support Stephen Curtis Chapman’s foundation for orphans also. It’s called Show Hope.

  5. It’s really great to write about some of the lesser known charities out there. I feel they sometimes get forgotten about for the more well known charities. Thanks for raising awareness about these charities!

  6. These are such incredible charities, I have never heard of any of these. Wednesday’s Child sounds like such an important one because eating disorders truly aren’t spoken about enough, especially with young kids. I am so glad these conversations are happening.

  7. I’m really sorry to hear that you and your daughter are struggling at the moment, reaching out to one of these charities to know how you can support her and look after yourself is such a good idea and they all offer helpful free advice and support for the issues you are both facing

  8. The only one on that list I’d heard of before is the Snowdon Trust. They helped me finish my postgraduate degree with some tution fee support. I wouldn’t have been able to finish it without them. The Snowdon Trust is a great charity that I hope to be able to give back to one day

  10. This is such a fantastic idea. Sharing information about lesser known charities will not only help gain more donations, but you will help countless people who didn’t realise there was help out there for them.

  11. This is a brilliant idea, Eleanor! Thanks for introducing me to these charities – I’ve just been checking them out and following, as they look like they’ll be useful sources of support for me to let people know about. And it’s great to raise awareness of lesser-known charities who are doing important work.
