5 TV Shows I Loved in School

With school starting for many children and young people this month, I thought I’d take a trip down memory lane and discuss some of my favourite TV shows during school.

Your time in school is such a pivotal part of your life, and as you grow up you find your interests and decide what shows you really love to watch, whether that’s with family and friends, or on your own.

In this post, find a few TV shows I loved in school, and let me know all of your nostalgic school-time favourites.

Gossip Girl

I loved Gossip Girl when it first came out, and it’s full of fantastic characters and fun drama. This is such a nostalgic watch for me now, and I can’t wait to try the new version soon. Gossip Girl is one of those shows that really epitomises the late noughties.

I love the fashion in this show, and the sense of glitz and glamour makes it a fun and memorable watch. I loved this show when I was in school, and it used to be so much fun trying to guess who Gossip Girl really was.

Some Girls

‘Some Girls’ was a BBC 3 classic, all about 4 teenage girls growing up in London. It is the epitome of British, teenage humour and it’s such a nostalgic watch. ‘Some Girls’ follows these teenagers as they experience life, love, and a range of school-time dramas.

I recently re-watched this show and it transported me straight back to secondary school- and I really recommend checking it out

Trending Live

Trending Live used to be a music/popular culture programme on 4Music after school everyday, and I used to love it. It was supposed to be a run-down of the popular culture news that day, but the young presenters usually let the show descend into chaos.

I always enjoyed watching it after school with my Mum and sister, and it’s one of those nostalgic, trashy shows you love to hate when you’re younger.

Gilmore Girls

I first started watching Gilmore Girls when I started Sixth Form, and I loved it. I’ve since re-watched it millions of times, but it’s one of those TV shows that I really loved to watch in school.

Sixth Form can be a stressful time, and watching Rory Gilmore prepare for college seemed to mirror my experiences working hard in school, and applying for University.

Rory and Lorelai Gilmore look into the distance from 'Gilmore Girls', smiling.

Mr Selfridge

As a teenager, I loved historical dramas, and I couldn’t get enough of shows like Mr Selfridge and Poldark when I was in school. There’s no surprise I went on to study history.

I loved Mr Selfridge, and it’s a show full of historical characters that are brought to life by a fantastic cast. I would love to watch this show again as I’ve never actually re-watched it!

What TV shows did you love in school? Are there any shows that are a nostalgic watch for you? Have you watched any of the TV shows I loved in school?

  4. The only show on your list I’ve watched is ‘Gilmore Girls’ and I remember how much I loved it (and Milo Ventimiglia) so I may have to rewatch it for some nostalgia viewing, haha! I don’t really remember what I used to watch as a teen so I’ll have to give it some thought as I know there were shows I loved!

  9. I loved Gossip Girl! It was a show that I started rewatching several years ago just because I missed it. I’ve started watching the new reboot and it’s not bad, but nothing will beat the original. Thanks for sharing! I loved this trip down memory lane! 🙂

  11. I used to love watching Gilmore Girls when I got home from school. It always gave me something to look forward to during those boring afternoon lessons. I loved Mr Selfridge too. You should definitely rewatch it. I saw so many things that I’d never picked up on the first time around and understood some of the storylines more too.

  12. Honestly I cannot remember what as was watching as a teen. I remember being really busy and in need to be outside all the time but can’t remember what I was watching. At some point I remember ‘Gilmore Girls’ but I think it was later while I was in college and don’t remember being a fanatic either. Actually only the last few years I have started watching series.

  13. That’s a nice list. I have grown up watching Hindi & Marathi series. I used to love the adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice in Hindi. The name of that series was Trishna.
I loved your topic of the blog. Made me quiet nostalgic.
    Thanks ❤

  16. I also enjoyed watching Gossip Girl growing up! It was always exciting to see what would happen next. I didn’t finish the series though, so I might have to start re-watching again. Have you watched the 2021 reboot? If yes, what do you think of it? I only started watching Gilmore Girls a few years ago and really enjoyed it. What did you think of the revival? I haven’t heard the rest of the shows you mentioned but I’m definitely going to look if I can watch Some Girls in my country. 🙂
