6 Tips to Writing Your Own Blogging Ebook

This post contains links to my own ebook. If you make a purchase, I get a small amount of money to help support my blog. Purchases are appreciated but never expected 🙂

I recently decided to write and publish my own blogging ebook, all about writing blog and social media content.

I started writing this ebook back in November 2020. The world was a bleak place and there were constant disappointments when it came to lockdown restrictions being lifted. Covid cases were climbing- and I knew I needed a distraction from what was going on outside.

So I started writing my own blogging ebook, channelling my frustration into my ebook and finally deciding to upload it for sale back in March 2021. I wanted to prove that I could do it, and give myself a productive distraction during times of uncertainty.

While writing, uploading, and promoting my ebook I’ve learned so much! I learned how to write for an unknown audience, how to effectively promote my work on Gumroad, and how to stay motivated when interest for my writing experiences ups and downs.

Below, I’ve put together 6 tips to writing your own blogging ebook! If you’re thinking of putting your writing out there, or you need a push to get started- check out my tips and let me know all your great ideas in the comments!

1. Know Your Stuff

When it comes to writing your own blogging ebook, it’s so important to know your stuff. Whether you want to write about travel, you’re passionate about the process of writing, or you love the idea of advising readers about social media strategy- it’s so important to know your subject.

For example, I chose to write a blogging ebook about writing blog and social media content, as I have a lot of experience writing for my own blog and lots of other publications.

It doesn’t matter what your subject is, make sure you properly understand the subject matter before you put pen to paper!

2. Choose a Platform

Once you’ve written your own blogging ebook, you need to choose how you want to sell it. I was super worried about this bit, as I’m not always great at the technical “behind-the-scenes” blogging tasks- but I found this guide to uploading your work on Gumroad and it was actually very straight-forward!

I also got some great advice from my followers online, and I really recommend choosing a platform that you can work well with and find a good community.

3. Check Your Writing!

You need to check your writing over and over if you’re going to be uploading and publishing it online. Make sure you’re always writing the best content, and keep your writing simple for people who might not yet understand your subject.

For example, if you’re writing an ebook about SEO or another complicated blogging subject- you need to make sure you keep your language clear and simple. Just because you’re an expert, others might not be!

If you fancy learning more about checking your writing and keeping mistakes to a minimum- check out my blogging ebook all about writing great content- and including a few helpful proof-reading resources to follow.

4. Utilise Social Media

Once you’ve written and perfected your blogging ebook, you need to decide how to promote it to your readers and followers. I hate to say it, but social media really is the best way to spread the word about your work- and I recommend giving it a go to help with your promotion!

Even if you just use social media for promotion of your blogging ebook, it’s such a great (and free!) way to promote yourself.

5. Stay Motivated

When you’re writing your own blogging ebook, be prepared for some ups and downs. You’ll feel amazing when you make a sale, and then down when you’ve not sold an ebook for a while. I think the best way to deal with these ups and downs is to remember that, ultimately, you enjoyed creating your ebook- so any sales that come are just a bonus!

Don’t get down if you don’t make many sales, or if you’re finding that interest is low. I still haven’t made lots of sales, but I’m still happy with the progress I’ve made- and I loved creating the ebook at a time when I needed the distraction.

6. Engage with Other Bloggers

I love engaging with bloggers online– and it’s one of the best ways to get the word out about your new blogging ebook. I recommend chatting to others for tips, ideas, and inspiration- and once you’ve published your ebook the blogging community is a great place to find any much-needed feedback, reviews, or kind words.

If you fancy checking out my blogging ebook, you can find it on Gumroad here. I loved writing this book and curating my experience into a short and simple guide for other writers and bloggers- and I really appreciate all the positive feedback I’ve received!
