Review of ‘Pages For You’ by Sylvia Brownrigg

Welcome back for another book review 🙂

At the end of last year, I read ‘Pages For You’ by Sylvia Brownrigg – a book that was so beautifully written, and I really enjoyed it!

‘Pages For You’ by Sylvia Brownrigg: Synopsis

‘Pages For You’ follows a young woman, Flannery. She is young and romantic, starting college with no romantic experience and excited to see what her academic career has to offer.

Flannery is an aspiring writer, and Sylvia Brownrigg tells the story from her point of view.

Early in the book, she becomes mesmerised by Anne, a PhD student who teaches one of Flannery’s classes. She is clever and beautiful, and Flannery is instantly captivated.

Before long, Flannery and Anne engage in a friendship. and then a tentative relationship, falling in love and experiencing a relationship that is both loving and intellectually stimulating.

Keeping their relationship quiet, their romance is overwhelming at times for young Flannery, as she attempts to find out who she is, who she is attracted to, and what love means.

My Review of ‘Pages For You’

I really enjoyed this book. Brownrigg’s writing style is poetic and beautiful.

Every sentence in this book is beautifully written, and I couldn’t help but feel swept up in the gorgeous imagery and intimate scenes between Flannery and Anne.

I loved the various settings of this book, from busy New York to the crisp descriptions of New England campus life.

I have to say, I wasn’t a huge fan of Anne’s character in this book. While Flannery was infatuated with Anne, Anne herself always seemed less excited by the relationship – perhaps to show the immaturity and youth of Flannery.

However, I still loved watching the relationship between these two women unfurl – and Flannery’s coming-of-age story is touching and interesting. I love a good coming-of-age novel!

I love that both the characters in this book are open and honest with themselves about their attraction and sexuality, and instead of labelling themselves or discussing their identity at length – they enjoy their relationship with one another as two human beings.

As an older, more experienced woman, Anne introduces Flannery to new things, people and experiences.

Overall, I really enjoyed this beautiful tale of love and identity, and I really recommend checking it out.

There is also a second book called ‘Pages For Her’ based on Flannery’s tale as an older woman – and it is fantastic, too!
