6 Simple Ways to Invest in Your Blog

Investing in yourself and your blog can be a great way to grow your online space and reach new readers.

If you’re a blogger looking to spend more time on your hobby, or you want to take your blog to the next level, it’s important to find a few ways to invest in your blog.

This doesn’t have to cost a lot of money – or any at all. It could just be about learning more about blogging – or it could be about engaging with new bloggers online.

In this blog post, I’ve put together a few simple ways to invest in your blog

Don’t get me wrong, I’m new to all of this. I’m still learning and growing. However, these ideas are a few ways that I’ve started to invest in my blog in the past few months!

Create a Mailing List

In my experience as a blogger, I know that creating a mailing list is one of the leading ways bloggers show they mean business.

Instead of just reaching out to your followers via your well-written posts, a mailing list shows that you’re also putting in the time to create fun, accessible monthly, weekly or even daily content that your email followers can enjoy.

I know a lot of bloggers who offer freebies and gifts if you subscribe to their newsletter, so this can also be a great way to connect with other bloggers and find out how to increase your following for free.

Invest in some Blog Advertising

Blog advertising is a great way to invest in your blog. Booking an advertising slot with another blogger is a cheap, easy way to increase your exposure and reach new bloggers and followers.

I’ve recently invested in some advertising, and I’m hoping this will mean I can reach more readers who enjoy my posts and want to subscribe.

This advertising can be anything from exposure in another blogger’s posts to sharing your links on social media. I think it’s a great way to make blogging connections and ensure your blog reaches a wider audience.

Learn from the Best

This is an essential way to invest in your blog! Do not alienate yourself from the rest of the blogging community – make sure you build connections and learn from those around you.

If you see a blogger with 10,000 more followers than you on Twitter, look at what they do and see if any ideas could inspire your own content.

This is not to say you should copy other bloggers! But making a note of what works or doesn’t work is a brilliant way of staying on top of your own blog.

Whether you blog for a hobby, or because you’re trying to build it into a career, I’ve always found that there are helpful bloggers around to teach you a thing or two.

Invest in Useful Products

There’s nothing that says you can’t have a brilliant blog without paying a single penny. In fact, I know lots of bloggers who write amazing content and have lots of followers – without having their own domain or investing in any products.

However, the best move for me was when I went self-hosted and bought my own domain. It pushed me to spend more time blogging and I had a financial motivation to grow my hobby.

I’ve also purchased some blogging ebooks to help me understand topics like SEO, marketing and making money from my blog.

I actually put together my own blog writing ebook, all about how to write killer blog content for your audience. I’ve included lots of tips, guides and resources – updated for 2024.

Don’t be Afraid to Take Risks

Reach out to that blogger you admire. Comment on a blog you don’t normally read. Change your posting time to see if it makes a difference.

Taking risks is central to understanding what works for you and your blog – and it can be a great way to make new connections and understand your own goals. If there’s a blogging ebook you want to write – write it! Or if there are some templates you’d like to create – get busy!

With life a little uncertain at the moment, some of us have more time to devote to our hobbies and dreams, and it’s a great time to work on a new project.

How have you invested in your blog lately? Do you enjoy building your readership? Do you have any ways to invest in your blog?

  7. Hey Eleanor, thanks for these tips! I definitely am someone who is quite willing (too willing actually) to invest in myself and my blog. I have decided that I won’t be putting any more money into the blog for the time being until I see some returns on it. I will just have to make do for now. Thanks once again for sharing these tips!

    1. Thank you! Haha I think that sounds like a frugal (and productive) plan 🙂 I’m always cautious about investing my blog- but as my main hobby I want to do everything I can to get it on the right path, and the small amount of money I’ve paid has been well worth it!
