School Subjects Tag- new tag!

I don’t know if I’m doing this right or if this is already a tag, but I thought I would try to make up a tag! The idea is to answer the questions and then nominate more people to spread the tag, keeping it as creative and fun as possible.

If you gave some credit to me for creating it that would be amazing, but no worries if you forget.

So, on with the questions…

1. Maths- What’s a book that left your head spinning in circles?

For me, a confusing book would have to be ‘The Secret Life of Bees’ by Sue Monk Kidd. The premise of the book itself is relatively simple and it’s not that I don’t understand what’s going on in the book, there’s just this one part of it that confuses me, and even after watching the film I’m a little unsure as to how Lily’s mum died.

2. English- Which book do you think has beautiful written expression?

Cheating slightly in my own tag, but the poetry of Sylvia Plath is just so beautiful that I couldn’t not mention it! Her poem ‘Lady Lazarus’ is just brilliant!

3. Physics- Who is your favourite scientifically minded character from a book/film?

I would probably say the main character from ‘The Mysterious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time.’ I really loved that book when I read it and the main character in that was extremely scientifically minded!

4. Chemistry- Who is your favourite literary couple?

This changes so much, but I would have to say Mary and Jem out of ‘Jamaica Inn’ by Daphne Du Maurier at the moment, they are just so great and I can’t help loving Jem a bit myself!

5. Biology- Who is your favourite book/film/series character?

Haha, biology and people are kind of linked?! I would have to say Demelza from Ross Poldark, she’s a brilliant, strong female character!

6. French- What is your favourite foreign book/film/programme?

I like a few foreign films, most of them French, and my favourite film would probably be ‘Intouchable’, which is about a man paralysed in a wheelchair who gets a new assistant that completely changes his view of life. It sounds really cheesy and typical, but it is just hilarious and really worth a watch- it’s not your typical soppy film!  I also like the writing style of Collette, who is also French!

7. Art- Have you ever judged a book by its cover, even if you weren’t meant to?!

Yes, so many times I’ve spotted a cover and thought the design looked unusual or good and I’ve borrowed it from the library based on both that and the blurb. One of those that I’ve judged would probably be ‘Bitter Greens’ by Kate Forsyth, which has a beautiful cover. I actually asked for it for my birthday based on a picture I’d seen of it (as well as having read the blurb) and I was not disappointed by the story!

8. History- What was the last historical book you read?

Practically all the books I read are historical! The last one I read that was explicitly historical fiction, rather than just set in the past, was probably ‘Eleanor the Queen’ by Norah Lofts. I have read lots of books set in the past since then, however!

9. Geography- Which literary destination would you really like to visit? (They can be real or fictional!)

Always the same for me- I want to visit the place where the book/programme series ‘Poldark’ is set. The books are by Winston Graham and the area around there seems lovely. My parents have also visited the place where ‘Jamaica Inn’ by Daphne Du Maurier is set, which I would love to see as well, as that is one of my favourite books!

10. Drama- What’s a book that you think has a lot of over-dramatic hype?

It might be unpopular, but ‘The Hunger Games’ series received so much hype and I tried the first book and wasn’t that bothered by it. I also think the films are a little over-rated, but the storylines are clever and complex, so it’s not Suzanne Collins’ writing that’s at fault, it’s just not my thing! πŸ™‚

  1. What a brilliant idea for a tag! And I’ve never seen a similar one around the blogosphere so I don’t think you need to be concerned about treading on anybody else’s toes. Thanks for tagging me – I’ll have loads of fun trying to think up books for this one!

Loved your answers too – I’m glad you’re enjoying Sylvia Plath so much, and I do hope you make it to Cornwall one day. It’s just as beautiful and atmpospheric as it always seems in books. πŸ™‚

Which poem did you read? Her poetry is hardhitting but brilliant, I think! Aw, sorry!!
Fair enough, I tired the first book and it wasn’t really my thing, but I can see why people would like it! Hope you enjoy doing the post! πŸ™‚

  3. Thanks so much for tagging me into this! I really like the tag you’ve put together, although as someone who studied Maths, I have to disagree on the first category πŸ˜‰ I’ll try to do this tag, although it may take me a little while to get to – I’m so behind on my blog and reviews at the moment πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you so much, and you’re welcome, sure you’ll do a great post!! Haha, I never thought of that, to me maths is really confusing so I guess I just presume everyone will find it difficult πŸ˜‰ If you get round to doing the post you could do a book you fully understood or that was too simple!! πŸ™‚

      1. Ha ha! Don’t worry – I appreciate that I’m in a minority when it comes to Maths making sense πŸ™‚ That’s a nice idea though – I’ll see what I can come up with πŸ™‚
